Slow and Steady – SPRING 2022 ORC WEEK 4

Here we are – halfway through the One Room Challenge timeline but barely started the work!

I shared in my stories on Instagram and Facebook that I’ve been trying to make fitness a priority lately. So in addition to taking care of four children, trying to keep the house in order and reno mess contained, I’ve been trying to fit in regular workouts.

I’ve actually signed up for a Spartan Race at the end of the month but I’m afraid I’m not Spartan ready! Both the race and ORC reveal are the same weekend, because of course they are and of course I would commit to both. Now all I can do is continue army crawling along the to finish line for both! Slow and steady, right? I mean I know I won’t be winning any races but at least I’ll get there eventually if I keep at it little by little…

Anyway, as for the ORC things have been slow moving with the mudroom cabinets. There are a few decisions about materials, budget and project creep that have held us up. More on that to come.

We did at least manage to drywall this week week. It’s a real patchwork job of random scraps we had leftover from other projects but the mud and tape hide that pretty well. Lots of sanding and a few more coats of compound will be needed but it doesn’t have to be perfect because much of it will be hidden by trim and perhaps crown moulding.

Drywall patchwork before corner bead, mud and tape. Frankenwall!

The most exciting development this week is that I finally opened my pocket-hole jig that my parents gifted me for Christmas! I was so giddy I couldn’t stop smiling! I’m grateful to have this tool to give me confidence in my joinery as a novice woodworker.

Can I even call myself that? I took woodshop in high school and I’ve loved working with tools on little projects in the past. I’ve watched many YouTube videos and other DIYers on Instagram to learn how to build things. I can’t wait to finally get to it myself! I’m hopeful this will be the first pocket hole project of many, especially if I can make it as great as it is in my mind.

Tune in next week to find out how it goes!

Cheers,

Lydia

  1. 1. Even if you don’t finish the mud room by the ORC deadline, it will get done. And that’s the main thing, right? 🙂
    2. Anybody who is willing to learn new skills and can use tools is awesome and deserving of praise.
    3. You? Over-commiting?… Never thought it possible! 😉
    4. Frankenwall drywalling is great because it’s eco friendly and budget friendly. I did an entire wall in my basement like that… and you can’t tell! 😀
    5. Good on you for exercising! LYDIA FOR THE WIN!
