Why ‘The Dappled Willow’?

If you could be a tree, what kind of tree would you be?

Shortly after buying our house we had to take down a couple of dead trees on our property. To fill some of the empty space, my husband planted a dappled willow for me.

I love it because instead of being droopy like a typical willow tree, a dappled willow’s branches grow upwards and happily dance in the breeze like a Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man!

The tree is lovely with its wild branches here and there. Personally, I don’t like when a dappled willow is shaped into a big puff ball. It does at times require a bit of pruning though. I totally identify with this tree; breezy, low maintenance, buuut still has areas that need a bit of work.

The leaves are beautifully speckled and spotted too, which, as a freckled person, I feel like I am too!

Last year, a tornado blew through our neighborhood and I watched through the window as our young but resilient dappled willow tree weathered the storm.

So you see, it’s more than just a pretty tree to me.

It represents new beginnings, strength and determination in the face of adversity, and fierce happiness.

I get to see it every day through our dining room window and it brings me such joy! I hope I can bring inspiration, happiness and encouragement to you through this blog like the dappled willow in my front yard brings me.

Well, if you made it this far you’re probably my mom.

If you’re not my mom then thank you so much for sticking around. I hope you enjoyed this first blog post and will come again another time.

Here’s to new beginnings and lifelong journeys of growth and pruning!
