I have to admit, the Spring 2020 One Room Challenge is not going as planned. If you know me you know I of course had a schedule for all of the projects I hoped to accomplish but the reality of trying to get everything done while caring for 3 kiddos during a global pandemic wasn’t something I considered during the planning stage.
In case you missed it, last week I started working on stenciling the bathroom floor. I made the stencil myself! I’m pretty proud of it.

This week the weather was amazing and I spent most of my time outdoors with my family every chance we had. I didn’t get to do much more in the bathroom except finish the stenciling. First I finished the inside tiles and then went along the edges against the walls and vanity.

The tricky thing about this pattern is that there are vertexes facing some of the walls and flat edges facing others. I decided to start with the vertex facing edges first because those are harder to line up and there was more area to be covered with the vertex part of the stencil. I then did the flat sides after all of the vertex facing edges were done.

Since I only had one stencil to work with, I started with the wall edge that needed a line of near complete hexagons and cut my stencil accordingly. I had to use a small paint brush to reach the corner where the floor meets the wall because my small roller wasn’t doing the job.

I then moved to the next area that required the least amount of cutting so my stencil would last for all of the edges. I cut my stencil a little bit more every time I went to a new area so that my grout lines would reach all the way to the wall.

It’s not much but progress is progress! Finishing the edges has made it look so much more convincing. Still a few touch ups I want to do on parts that bled but we’re almost ready to seal it and get the toilet reinstalled!!

So here’s where the project list stands right now.
THE PROJECT LIST:
DeclutterRemove medicine cabinet and mirrorPaint the tile baseboardsMove light fixture boxPatch drywall holesSpray paint the faucetSpray paint the windowPaint the walls and ceilingPaint tile floors with DIY Stencil- Seal painted tile floor

So much still to do and so little time! I am so proud of what I have accomplished so far and am glad I have been able to find balance with projects and enjoying my family. As much as I love DIY it is not the most important thing in my life. I am especially happy we got to celebrate my husband this weekend for Father’s Day. He is such an incredible Dad and my kiddos are so blessed to have him as their Papa.
Alas, we are entering the final weeks of the One Room Challenge and I intend to give it my best shot. Be sure to follow along on Instagram and Facebook stories if you want to see my progress! Not making any promises but I am hopeful I’ll be a bit more productive this week.
Cheers,
Lydia

I agree that it’s much more difficult to find the motivation to work on indoor DIY projects when the weather is sooooo nice! Who wants to be stuck inside doing house renovations when you can be outside playing?!?! (I remember the complete bathroom Reno I did 5 years ago that took some of July and the entire month of August…) However, on the flip side, once you get it finished, it’ll feel sooooo great! So far, everything is coming together really well, and there’s so little left in your list to complete! Keep going!… You’ve got this!

Thanks for the encouragement Shena! I’m excited to get the toilet reinstalled once I’m done sealing the floors. Then I’m hopeful the rest will be pretty quick. 😊
